Gordon Nicotine-Sands

First Nation Artist

Born in 1977, Gordon Nicotine-Sands is a First Nation Artist, originally from the Poundmaker Cree Nation in Saskatchewan, Canada. Gordon is of Plains Cree and Ojibway descent. "IYISINIW" ("Human" in the Plains Cree language) is a reference to Gordon's artistic influence from both traditional and contemporary backgrounds. Born and raised in the urban setting, Gordon's appreciation for his surroundings began at an early age. Sketches of common everyday media influences (comic books, cartoons, sports, etc.) typical of young boys of the era took up most of Gordon's time.
